Introduction & history

National Park specialists in mobile communications construction.

Established in 1996 by David Shand, based in Achilty, Ross-shire, and primarily focused on providing construction and specialist logistics services to the UK telecommunications industry.

Major construction works followed, including new buildings to house the switches for the digital television switch over at Thrumster Transmitter Station and a Highlands switch for Orange Communications at Rothes, quickly establishing DSC North as the predominant supplier in Scotland.

National Parks specialists

Vodafone formed a specialist National Parks Project Group (NPPG) in 1998, tasked with developing a sensitive approach to telecommunications network roll out suitable for the national parks environment. DSC North was the natural choice for construction.

All site construction methods and materials were agreed with stakeholders from the relevant parks authority, planning committee and landowners. These techniques were taken up and published as “best practice” in the planning guidelines document NPPG19.
